Throughout the past year about 12 million pigs were killed in Belgium, or put another way, 1 million pigs a month. Pork represents 1.1 million tons of the total 1.9 million tons of meat from Belgium.

In relation to cattle, a total of 857,196 animals were slaughtered (around 70.000/month), representing 272,282 tons of beef in 2011. In 2011, 25 million birds representing 495,800 tons of meat were also killed.
