Cereal production in Latin America and the Caribbean grew by 8.8%, reaching 221.4 million tonnes, the FAO pointed out today.

According to the Food and Nutrition Safety Bulletin published by the FAO, this rise is mainly due to Argentina and Brazil, which increased their cereal production by 17.2% and 11%, respectively.

Along the region, the production of secondary cereals reached 172.1 million tonnes, exceeding the production of year 2012 by 10.5%. The production of wheat would surpass that of the previous year by 6%, reaching 21.3 million tonnes, and rice production would improve slightly, by 2.2%, reaching 28 million tonnes.
