Three employees of the meat cooperative Cooperl, the main French pork producer, have been sentenced to prison punishments because of a case of fraud with meat contaminated with Salmonella. The company will also have to pay a €150,000 fine.

Last 26 March, six Cooperl managers (who were suspected of forging, between 2010 and 2012, the results of the self-monitorings with the aim of selling some 1,500-2,000 tonnes of pork contaminated with Salmonella), appeared before the Saint-Brieuc Criminal Court.

This contaminated meat, that represented 0.15% of the total meat sold by Cooperl between 2011 and 2012, was delivered to companies (especially Russian, but also French) that produce ready-made food.
