The Ministry of Agriculture launched a collaborative effort with representatives of the national pork sector, aimed at identifying and implementing measures that will help improve conditions for producers, strengthen production, and ensure the sustainability of this agricultural activity. As a first step, Minister Francisco Oliverio Espaillat Bencosme held a working meeting with the board of directors of the Dominican Federation of Pig Farmers (FEDOPORC), during which they analyzed current market conditions, trends in domestic production, and the sector’s main challenges.
During the meeting, pig farmers raised issues affecting the industry, including trends in producer prices and import patterns. The parties exchanged proposals aimed at preserving the sector’s stability, improving conditions for producers, and maintaining an adequate supply of pork for consumers. As a result, it was agreed to move toward an expanded working session that will include other stakeholders in the pork supply chain, with the goal of delving deeper into the issues raised and establishing joint priorities.

FEDOPORC President Miguel Ángel Olivo Rodríguez spoke highly of the openness shown by Minister Espaillat Bencosme and his willingness to listen directly to producers. He also highlighted the minister’s commitment, since taking office, to maintaining open lines of communication with the various segments of the national agricultural sector.
The Ministry of Agriculture will continue to pursue this policy of engagement and collaboration with producers as part of an agenda aimed at strengthening domestic production and contributing to the country’s food security. Also participating in the meeting were Israel Brito, José Abud, Carlos Abreu, and Aquiles Irizarry, members of the FEDOPORC board of directors, along with officials from the Ministry of Agriculture.
