From January 1 to September 30, 2026, 7,455 outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) were reported in the countries included in the ADIS system. Of these, 733 involved domestic pigs and 6,722 involved wild boars.
In domestic pigs, outbreaks were concentrated particularly in Romania (315) and Serbia (217). Together, these two countries accounted for nearly three-quarters of the reported cases. Other notable locations included Croatia (130 outbreaks), Moldova (25), Bosnia and Herzegovina (13), Poland (10), and Ukraine (9).

Among wild boars, Poland led the notifications with 1,721 outbreaks, followed by Italy (1,096), Lithuania (859), Germany (718), Hungary (625), and Latvia (591). These six countries accounted for more than 80% of the outbreaks recorded in wild boars. Spain reported 60 outbreaks during the period.
Fewer outbreaks than in the first nine months of 2025*
Compared with the same period in 2025, there was a 16.6% decrease in the total number of outbreaks, falling from 8,937 to 7,455. This reduction was driven by the trend in wild boars: notifications dropped from 8,205 outbreaks between January and September 2025 to 6,722 during the same period in 2026—an 18.1% decrease.
In domestic pigs, by contrast, the situation remained practically stable: 732 outbreaks between January and September 2025 compared to 733 in 2026. However, the geographical distribution changed. Romania went from 364 to 315 outbreaks and Serbia from 178 to 217, while Croatia saw an increase from 43 to 130 outbreaks.
