Below are the results of the inventory of pigs and farms, compiled by the Classical Swine Fever (CSF) Eradication Program of the Porkcolombia Association - National Swine Fund (FNP) in 2026, based on farm characterization, vaccination, and animal identification in the field. The report classifies farms into four production types according to their number of breeding sows and/or finishing pigs: backyard (fewer than 3 sows and/or fewer than 15 finishing pigs), family commercial (between 3 and 10 and/or between 15 and 100), industrial commercial (between 10 and 100 and/or between 100 and 600), and technologically advanced (100 or more and/or 600 or more). These types are grouped, in turn, into family (backyard and family commercial) and commercial (industrial and technologically advanced commercial) according to the classification established by the guild.
General inventory

- In 2026, 12,933,869 head of pigs were counted in Colombia, 9.3% more than in 2025. By type, 61.7% corresponded to technically advanced production, 19.7% to industrial commercial, 13.0% to family commercial, and 5.7% to backyard.
- The departments of Antioquia (30.1%), Valle del Cauca (13.1%), Cundinamarca (7.7%), the Coffee Region —Caldas, Risaralda and Quindío— (6.2%), and Atlántico (3.5%) accounted for 60.6% of the national inventory.
- The commercial industrial segment was the fastest-growing in the country, with increases of 46.5% in breeding sows and 51.1% in replacement females compared with 2025, reaching 109,147 head and 23,664 head, respectively. The commercial family segment also posted strong growth, increasing by 39.2% and 57.3%, respectively.
- Meanwhile, the technically advanced production segment had an inventory of 7,975,588 head —292,930 breeding sows, 57,337 replacement females, 9,141 boars, and 7,616,180 finishing pigs—, representing a single-digit decline compared with 2025 that, in absolute terms, is close to the growth recorded by the commercial-industrial segment over the same period.
Farms
- There were 218,015 pig farms registered in the country, 12.7% more than in 2025, with 0.4% being technically advanced production, 2.7% industrial commercial, 23.2% family commercial, and 73.6% backyard.
- Although backyard farms represent the largest share of the total, with 160,476 farms, the number of animals housed in them is minimal compared to the inventory concentrated in just 962 technologically advanced farms, which averaged 8,291 head per farm.
- The commercial industrial sector also led the growth in the number of farms, with an increase of 41.1% to 5,925 farms, while the technologically advanced farms decreased slightly to 962 (-2.0%), in line with the decline in the inventory of this type.
Backyard production
- The backyard inventory, meanwhile, increased by 27.9% in both breeding sows and finishing animals compared to 2025, to 84,860 and 594,020 respectively, with a parallel growth of 9.4% in the number of farms.
